(not to be confused with Pyrogallol)

(Source : The Negative. Adams)

Solution A

Water (Distilled) 100.0 cc
Sodium Sulphite anhydrous 1.25 g
Pyrocatechin 8.0 g

(Pyrocatechin is also known as Catechol.)

Solution B

Sodium Hydroxide 1.0 g
Cold Water to 100.0 cc

Use: Mix 20 parts A: 50 parts B: 500 parts water.

Use immediately. Discard after use.

Useful for retaining definition in highlight (>Zone X) negative areas. The emulsion speed is reduced approx 50% in lower parts of the scale (highlight areas). Therefore expose film at manufacturers recommended speed. Test before using on anything important. The developer produces a stain which increases the printing contrast. Do not attempt to evaluate negatives without printing. Dev. times should be approx. 10-15 mins @ 20ºC.
